LCMG Community Food Development

To develop food growing opportunities in more areas, with which the local community can be involved and help offset cost of living increases

LCMG Stroud was founded to help bring locally  grown food, to organic standards, to local communities.  It is based on a Community Supported Agriculture model.  With experience gained from small scale community schemes run by volunteers who were sharing their own organically grown produce within the local community,  a site was found at Sheepscombe (June 2022) to turn these principles and values into a scheme that could not only achieve this on a more practical scale, but also offer employment and educational opportunities.

With increasing pressure on families due to the cost of living crisis, the impact of industrialised food production on the environment and the need to counteract climate change, more locally accessible food production is a way to make a difference and raise awareness.  Everyone can and should have access to fresh, locally grown and seasonal food at affordable prices.  We can also tailor our methods to suit the local community and by working together, produce different types of fresh foods, too and products that people welcome.

We still have some of our original volunteers helping to make this happen and we now have the opportunity to start two new projects in other areas.  However, to make these a reality, we need professional project growers and community facilitators.  By opening up new sites, by bringing in a project managers and grower, LCMG aims to help reduce the impact of food deserts and where possible, to bring local food as close within walking distance in different areas.  In summary, this fund will help us employ two people to get these sites working, afford the practical utilities we need for things ranging from seeds, to soil guards and new tools, to arranging climate-friendly delivery veg delivery schemes to the less able.
